Grigoriy Mirzoyan’s fate is a classic “new American” story, rewritten for the modern realities of the tattoo industry. A former software engineer from Ukraine, whose career and plans in his homeland were shattered by war, he has not only assimilated into the USA but has made a dizzying ascent in one of the most closed and conservative creative fields. Today, his name appears on the judging panels of major festivals, and his studio, Life Needle, occupies a prestigious address in the heart of Manhattan’s financial district.
Grigoriy’s path into art began with a forced pause. Upon arriving in the United States, he faced the typical immigrant’s problem: his diploma and technical skills did not grant him instant access to the world of big IT corporations. To survive, Mirzoyan had to work for a moving company, but it was precisely this period that became the calm before the real creative storm. His job search in his field led him to a large tattoo studio in Soho, which needed a web developer to update its website. This short-term contract became the point of no return: Grigoriy quickly transitioned from technical support to studio management, while simultaneously delving into the study of tattooing techniques with the meticulousness of an engineer.
