Modern tattooing in Russia has long outgrown the framework of simple body decoration, transforming into a complex social marker and tool for self-expression. In Novosibirsk, one of the largest tattoo industry centers in Siberia, this process is particularly active. Today, not only representatives of informal youth but also quite established adults can be found in the masters’ chairs. Body art has ceased to be a taboo topic, transforming into an aesthetic manifesto that reflects a person’s inner worldview and, importantly, their reaction to current events in the country and the world.
